Take the Load Off
The majority of us are watching our budgets, and saving energy
will save us money. There’s no better way to participate in a voluntary
energy program to help us shift or reduce energy use during the times of
the day the demand for energy is at its highest. We call it: Take the
Load Off.
With TLO (Take the Load Off) the REMC will install a timer on your
existing electric water heater to control the operating times. After
installation, a one-time $25 credit will be applied on your electric
bill. The rewards are instantaneous, and the results can be measured in
the savings you’ll see on your meter. This is one of those times your
participation really will pay to save!
According to the Department of Energy, installing a timer on a water
heater can save an additional 5 – 12 percent of energy. Water heater
timers operate between the non-peak times of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 10
p.m. to 5 a.m. EST allowing water to heat and be ready for your daily
use.
Requirements:
• Must be a homeowner.
• Water heaters must be electric and 40 gallons or larger.
• Timers must stay in place a minimum of 12 months.
• Timer remains the property of Clark County REMC.
TLO was introduced in the fall of 2010 and hundreds of members signed up
to participate in this voluntary program. Now you can too by calling
our office at 812-246-3316. Over three thousand REMC members have water heater timers and it’s working for them.
Receive an instant $25 bill credit after the timer is installed.
Installation is free.
