Do you know a student who wants to get more engaged in state government and learn more about what makes Indiana tick?
Make sure he/she knows about this program!
Indiana's 38 electric cooperatives are accepting applications from high school students for the Indiana Electric Cooperative Page Day program. The Electric Cooperative Page Days are held in Indianapolis at the Indiana Statehouse. Page Day is an interactive, educational experience that allows students the opportunity to learn about the dialy activities that take place in the Statehouse during the legislative session.
2017 Electric Cooperative Page Days are:
Monday, Jan. 23, 2017 (House)
Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 (Senate)
Students will meet their legislation, tour the Statehouse, and observe the daily session. This program includes opportunties for placement on both the House and Senate side of the Legislature. Students who have an interest in participating should apply via the Indiana Electric Cooperatives website: https://www.indianaec.org/programs/youth/page-day/.
All applicants must be high school students and have adequate transportation to and from the Statehouse. The application deadline is Jan. 16 (for Monday, Jan. 23), Jan. 25 (for Wednesday, Feb. 1). If students have participated in previous programs they are eligible to reapply each year. Students are limited to one Indiana Electric Cooperative Page Day per year. Registration will begin at the Indiana Statehouse promptly at 8:30 a.m., and the program will dismiss at 3:30 p.m. Home-schooled students are also eligible to apply. A comprehensive schedule for the day will be set as the program date approaches based on volume of applicants. Lunch will be provided by Indiana Electric Cooperatives.
Program highlights include visits to the House and Senate chambers, the Supreme Court, and the governor's office. Students will have the opportunity to observe the legislative session directly from the floor of the House or Senate, listen to debates on important policy issues, and possibly even witness votes depending on the legislative schedule.
